Warning: Spoilers ahead for Final Destination Bloodlines. If you haven’t seen the film yet and want to keep the ending a surprise, you might want to stop here.

The latest installment in the Final Destination franchise may just be its most emotional yet, serving as a heartfelt goodbye to the late Tony Todd, the iconic actor known for his role as William Bludworth.

Todd, who passed away last November at age 69, reprises his role as the enigmatic mortician in this final chapter. His character’s last moments on screen are especially touching, as Bludworth reveals he’s ill and ready to retire, encouraging others to cherish every moment of life.

“Life is precious,” Bludworth says, delivering what feels like a poignant farewell not just from the character but from Todd himself.

The film’s directors, Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, purposely wrote this scene with Todd’s real-life health in mind. They asked him to go off-script and speak from the heart about life and death, giving fans a genuine final message from the beloved actor.

“We told Tony to forget the script and just say what was in his heart,” Stein said. “This was his way of saying goodbye to fans.”

Despite being physically frail during filming, Todd was eager to participate and insisted on being included, emphasizing his love for the role.

The Mystery of William Bludworth Explained

For years, fans have speculated about who Bludworth really is — some even believed he was the embodiment of Death. The film finally sheds light on his backstory: Bludworth cheated death decades ago, which is why he knows so much about it.

As a child, he was spared when a tower collapse was prevented by Iris, the grandmother of one of the film’s protagonists. Because Iris was meant to die before him, Bludworth’s life was extended as long as she lived.

This revelation adds depth to Bludworth’s character, making him more than just a mysterious guide but someone who has lived through the very fate he warns others about.

What’s Next for the Franchise?

Although the film ends with the deaths of key characters, the series is unlikely to end here. If Bloodlines does well, fans can expect a seventh film, possibly featuring a new cast and continuing the story.

Interestingly, Bludworth hints that Kimberly Corman, a character from Final Destination 2, successfully cheated death, opening doors for her possible return and continuation of the mentor role in future films.
